Okay. I committed a serious crime, and I saw the movie before I read the book. I thought the movie was good, so I figured the book would be better, as is almost always the case. And -- okay, I have never said this in my life and I probably won't ever say it again, but I thought the movie was actually better than the book. *wince* Okay, it wasn't that the book was bad. It was okay. It was just so difficult to understand; the plot was somewhat disorganized and not explained very well. The characters, Sophie in particular, were not developed enough. The film, however, did a good job of using the book as a starting point. It tied up the plot nicely w/o changing too much or adding anything extremely outrageous. The characters and the relationships between them were also clearer in the movie than they were in the book. I really, really hate saying this ... Gah. But really, I liked the movie better.
