Everyone told me that this book was really good. But when I started reading it I absolutely HATED it. I don't know why it was ever such a popular and acclaimed novel. It's written in such an amateur, sob-story style. I mean PLEASE--the main character's mother, baby sister, and grandma all die in different incidents throughout the book. It seemed as if every few pages there was some dramatic, unnecessary tragedy. Plus, with the two completely unrelated stories going on at once, it got sort of confusing. I just didn't get what was supposedly so good about it.
