Flying Kick-a-pow!

I loved it! It was SO good! I thought it was going to be dull, but from the first chapter I was totally sucked in. It was a very captivating story. All the characters were so compelling – Hester, Dimmesdale, Pearl, Chillingworth … Ahhh such a great cast of characters, and it was pure genius how all their stories were intertwined. It was really suspenseful and interesting; I was always biting my nails, wondering how in the world it was going to end! I won't spoil it, but I will say that I did like the ending. It was sad, but it was really touching too. I cried. Haha.I also must say that I love Hawthorne's writing style. The only thing that bugged me about it was how he outright explained his symbols, but then again that was the style at the time. And he did use very good symbols. But you could tell that this was a story that was carefully planned and thought out, a story that Hawthorne really put his heart into. The Scarlet Letter was also the first psychological novel of its time, which is very impressive. I admire Hawthorne's ability to really go out there and make such bold statements about society, about religion, and about the darkest aspects of human nature – things that most other writers didn't explore as fully at the time.In conclusion, it was amazing. I loved loved loved it. :) A very compelling, captivating, and thought-provoking story, driven by great characters and an original writing style.
